The Foundation
Establishement
The Gábor Than Foundation was established in honor of Professor Gábor Than, an internationally renowned obstetrician and gynecologist who had research interest in the placenta, pregnancy-related proteins and their diagnostic utilization in pregnancy complications. After his sudden passing, the Foundation was founded on August 22, 2002 by the Pécs Biochemical Researchers’ Society in his memory to support the research of the placenta and pregnancy-related proteins. The Foundation was registered under number 1407 by the Baranya County Court in accordance with §74/A Para. (4) of Act IV of 1959. The Pécs Court classified the Foundation as a public service organization in accordance with Act CLXXV of 2011.
Public services
In accordance with the Deed of Charter, the Foundation shall perform the following public services:
- supporting health maintenance, disease prevention, therapeutic and medical rehabilitation activities;
- supporting scientific conduct, research, development and innovation.
Goals
In accordance with its public services, the Foundation has the following goals:
- Support for examinations in genomic and proteomic, onco-biological, developmental and molecular biological research on human genes and proteins, particularly pregnancy-related proteins, and for utilization of their findings in diagnosis and therapy;
- Support for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in obstetric and gynecological pathologies, for their basic and applied research, and for the application of the newly developed diagnostics and therapies;
- Establishment and granting of awards and fellowships for young scientists in the field, and for outstanding research achievements;
- Contact and cooperation with the Hungarian and international scientific organizations and institutes in the field, and the joint establishment of scientific awards;
- Organization and conducting of scientific research exchange programs;
- Scientific talent search and care;
- Organization of scientific courses and congresses;
- Performance of tasks in education and further training;
- Establishment and maintenance of a scientific further training center;
- Editing and publication of studies, monographs, books and textbooks;
- Scientific data processing, establishment of a foundation database and archive;
- Initiation of a scientific informative website, provision of interactive web services;
- Formation of a scientific press observer service;
- Investigation of the means to assist attainment of these goals, and application for support.
